Concrete Tube Calculator

Estimate a hollow cylinder or ring using its outer diameter, inner diameter and height.

Units

Geometry dimensions — schematic, not to scaleD₁ (outer)HD₂
Schematic · not to scale · quantity repeats the entire solid

Concrete & bag assumptions

Density is the placed concrete density, not dry bag weight. Defaults are examples for normal-weight concrete. Bag weight does not determine yield; use the mixed yield printed on your product.

Estimate cost (optional · USD)

All cost fields are optional and user-entered. Ready-mix and bags are alternatives, never added together. No average or local prices are assumed — use a real quote. Labor per area is available only for shapes with a defined footprint.

Formula & solid model

V = π × [(D₁/2)² − (D₂/2)²] × H × Q

All lengths convert to metres before calculation. Blank waste = 0%. Zero dimensions or quantity produce zero volume. Display values are rounded; costs and bags use unrounded volumes.

Estimate inputs & formula

Outer diameter (D₁): 24 in · Inner diameter (D₂): 12 in · Height (H): 4 ft · Quantity (Q): 1

V = π × [(D₁/2)² − (D₂/2)²] × H × Q

Estimate only, not engineering advice. Actual needs vary with subgrade, forms and spillage. Confirm final quantities and product yields with your supplier or contractor before ordering.

What this calculates

The inner cylindrical void is subtracted from the outer cylinder. Both diameters use the same centre. Set inner diameter to 0 for a solid cylinder; a positive inner diameter must be smaller than the outer diameter.

Formula

V = π × [(outer diameter/2)² − (inner diameter/2)²] × height × quantity

Worked example

2 m outer diameter, 1 m inner diameter, 1 m high

  1. 1.Net area = π × (1² − 0.5²) = 2.356194 m²
  2. 2.Volume = 2.356194 m³
  3. 3.With 10% waste: 2.591814 m³

Common mistakes

  • Using wall thickness as the inner diameter.
  • Entering an inner diameter equal to or larger than the outer diameter.

Frequently asked questions

Can this calculate a circular slab?

Yes. Use slab thickness as height, with inner diameter 0 for a solid circle or a positive inner diameter for a ring.
